Hassan Ndam won’t get up once - Lemieux’s Manager

David Lemieux is on the rise, heading into a world title fight four years after he suffered his first pro defeat.

That year, 2011, was a tough one for Lemieux, as he got stopped in seven rounds by Marco Antonio Rubio and then proceeded to lose in his next outing, dropping a majority decision to Joachim Alcine.

Since then, though, he’s won eight straight, including a three-round knockout of Fernando Guerrero and a 10th-round technical knockout of Gabriel Rosado in 2014, all of which will land him a shot at a vacant world title. That bout, against Hassan Ndam, will happen “hopefully at the end of May,” according to Lemieux’s manager, Camille Estephan.

And then he’s looking at other big names for Lemieux afterward.

We want Ndam. We’re not looking past Ndam. We want that title,” Estephan said.

“We want Canelo [Alvarez]. We want [Miguel] Cotto. We want [Gennady] Golovkin.

It will happen when the money’s right, believe me. We’re confident with David.

He’s doing all the right things. Against Rosado, he answered a lot of questions. Against Guerrero, the fight before, very spectacular. And people want to see him fight. He’s the type of fighter that people want to see fight.”

But Ndam and the IBF title need to come first.

From the business point of view, the belt is great. But more from a personal point of view, as a boxer when you turn pro, that’s what you’re dreaming of. So David absolutely wants that belt,” Estephan said.

Ndam pairs up great with Lemieux on paper, he said.

It’s a guy that’s very busy, that moves very well, that has really good feet. David is a guy that likes to fight on the inside that chases opponents,” Estephan said. “We’ll see a beautiful stylistic matchup.”

Ndam is coming off a decision win over Curtis Stevens last October in a title elimination bout. He also is known for his loss to Peter Quillin in 2012.

He showed a lot of heart,” Estephan said. “He got dropped six times. He took it. He came back. He fought hard and won a lot of rounds.”

That won’t happen against Lemieux.

I don’t think he’ll get up once,” Estephan said. “He’ll go down and not get up.
