Belgian tactician, Hugo Broos, has been told to in fuse the much needed fighting spirit in the Lions and bring back the glorious days of football in Cameroon.
“As the head of the Lion’s technical bench, you have an obligation to instil the Lion’s fighting spirit and also to bring back the moments that the Lions used to roar,” said Bidoung Mpkatt, Minister of Sport and Physical Education.
Calling on Hugo Broos to reside in Cameroon and ensure the detection of local talent across the country, Bidoung Mpkatt instructed the new Lions’Coach to ensure the qualification of Cameroon for the 2017 AFCON and the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
The President of the Cameroon Football Federation, FECAFOOT, Tombi ? Roko Sidiki, in a press conference that followed the signing of the contractof the new Coach, said the choice of Hugo Broos came after attempts to get the five shortlisted coaches was fruitless.
Tombi ? Roko reiterated the need for Cameroon to qualify for international competitions.
“We want to participate in the 2017 AFCON and win. We also want to participate in the 2018 World Cup,” Tombi said
Accompanied by some members of his staff, including his assistant, Sven Vandenbroeck and Alexandre Belinga, the Belgian said he will not succumb to pressure and intrusion in his duties.
According to him, he will work with Alexandre Belinga to ensure that all goes well.
Appointed on February 13, Hugo Broos will coach the Lions for two years. His first challenge is on March 26 in Limbe, when Cameroon host South Africa in the 2017 African Cup of Nations qualifier.
Hugo Broos holds a UEFA professional licence and speaks four languages: Dutch, English, German and French.
