South West Governor wished them the blessings of the gods of Mount Cameroon.
The Governor of the South West Region, Bernard Okalia Bilai, has implored the gods of Mount Cameroon to be with the indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon at the upcoming all Africa Games next March in Ethiopia.
He beseeched the glory for the female football team in his office, 20 January, as he received 28 Lionesses led by their team manager, Dicka Albert, head coach, Enow Ngachu and team captain, Aboudi Onguene.
The team that had been camping in Buea for two weeks ahead of their Ethiopian expedition come March as well as the next female world cup competition, for which they are already qualified, came to say farewell to the chief executive of the Region.
The Governor told the Lionesses that in Buea they are called the Lionesses of Buea because when they last camped here they performed so well in Namibia where they qualified for the upcoming competitions. He urged the female footballers to put their ambitions on top of Mount Cameroon and represent Cameroon wholeheartedly with success as their watchword.
Earlier, the team manager expressed their delight for camping in Buea and corroborated the team coach to affirm that Buea is henceforth their blessing ground each time they have a competition. Coach Ngachu however regretted that very few girls in the South West Region ever take interest in playing football. He wished that their training in Buea would galvanise the women of the area to develop appetite in the game.
Harvesting thunderous applause from the audience, the Cameroon female team captain, Onguene, expressed optimism that they would perform utmost in Ethiopia and praised the administration of Buea for giving them the required security during their training. The girls looked very agile and promising as they left Buea in January 21 after spending half a month in the cold concentrating climate of Buea.
