Indomitable Lions target win over Sierra Leone

Cameroon will aim to register their third win in as many matches when they face Sierra Leone in a 2015 CAF Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at the Omnisports Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium on Saturday.

Kick-off is at 4pm (CAT).

The Indomitable Lions top Group D after winning 2-0 away against the Democratic Republic of Congo before brushing Ivory Coast aside, winning 4-1 at home.

Volker Finke’s side have adapted well to life without former captain and talismanic striker Samuel Eto’o, who retired from international football after he was left out of the squad for the first round of qualifiers.

In his absence, Vincent Aboubaker and Clinton Ndie have come to the fore, scoring three goals each in the last two matches and these are the two players who are likely to cause problems for Sierra Leone.

The Leone Stars will be listed as the home team on the fixture card but the match will be played in the Cameroonian city of Yaounde due to the Ebola outbreak in Sierra Leone.

Sierra Leone will also play their first match under a new coach following the sacking of Northern Irishman Johnny McKinstry, who was in charge for the first two qualifiers as they went down 2-1 to Ivory Coast and 2-0 against DR Congo.

Otta Mensah has been appointed as the new coach by the country’s sports ministry and he is looking forward to his first assignment despite the cloud hanging over his position with the Sierra Leone Football Association stating that he is not qualified for the post.

“We are going to be in charge of the team because we are appointed by both the Sports ministry and the SLFA,” said Mensah, referring to himself and his assistant coach John Sama.

“I’ve put everything behind me, we are now focused on the match on Saturday and we want to do well.”

John Ajina Sesay was appointed as the new head coach by the Sierra Leone Football Association with Abdulai Bah roped in as his assistant and the two are expected to take over the team on Thursday.

The two sides have met on two occasions with Cameroon winning one clash 1-0, while the other ended in a 1-1 draw.
