Joseph Antoine Bell to sue Mboafootball

Joseph Antoine Bell, former Indomitable Lions goal keeper, is threatening to sue Mboafootball.com, a Cameroon football news website that published a story alleging that he collected 50MFCFA as bribe from the Normalization Committee of the Cameroon Football Federation, FECAFOOT to end his ambition for the organisation’s top job of President.

Bell declared his candidature for the controversial elections of president for the federation and criticized the committee on several occasions as corrupt.

Mboafootball reported last Thursday that the normalization committee bribed the former national team player to keep his mouth shut on the goings-on in FECAFOOT. The article was later removed from the website, but Camerooon-info.net reported later that the issue remained at the center of debate among sport fans over the weekend.

Bell, Camerooon-info.net said, stated in a program on CRTV’s Douala-based commercial station, Suelaba FM 105 that the author of the article certainly does not have a bank account and asked if the reporter could prove that he had received bribe. He argued that if one is bribed by cheque, it would be easy to trace the deal.

“The person who issues the cheque will be able to know where and when you cashed it. If the writer of the article was a good journalist, he would have sought to know from the informant, where the money will be cashed.” He said; adding that a good journalist would have gone as far as getting the cheque number and maybe a photocopy of it.

He urged the editor of the website, Martin Camus Mimb to do an appropriate corrigendum; noting that his lawyers are doing their job.
