The training camp is in preparation for the upcoming encounters against D.R. Congo, Libya and Guinea Bissau.
The Indomitable Lions began training yesterday in Metz-France ahead of the crucial month of June during which they are expected to play three important matches against the Democratic Republic of Congo, Libya and Guinea Bissau in the qualifiers for the 2014 world cup and 2013 African cup of Nations. According to the coach of the Indomitable Lions, Denis Lavagne, the training is going to be focused on enabling the players regain their physical and mental freshness, work out a comprehensive and cohesive play style as well as sort out any hitches within the squad. Denis Lavagne whose job is hanging on the balance said he is counting on positive results to silence critics as he says he is conscious that he has no room for error or defeat. He however, expressed confidence in his squad saying Cameroon is eager to shine at the continental and world scene after missing out on the 2012 AFCON in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.
According to a programme published by Frenchman, Denis Lavagne, the training camp in France will culminate in a friendly against Guinea Conakry to test the players in competition. After which the lions will come back home on May 28 to prepare for the world Cup qualifier encounter against the Democratic republic of Congo on June 2nd. The day after the encounter they leave for Sfax-Tunisia for the next World Cup qualifying game against Libya which was moved to Tunisia due to the political instability in the North African country. After the Libyan encounter the Lions return home this time to face Guinea Conakry in the return leg qualifier for the Africa Cup of Nations to take place in South Africa next year. In the away leg on February 9 in Conakry, Cameroon took the upper hand in a tension packed encounter that ended1-0 in favour of Cameroon.
Meanwhile, of the 26 players called to camp, only 25 are certain to honour the rendezvous as Gaetang Mbong has declared forfeiture to undergo medical treatment after sustaining an injury in a club match. Nkoulou and Stephane Mbia are not expected to be in their best shape as they are also suffering from injuries. They are certainly going to miss the first match against the Democratic Republic of Congo but the coach however, hopes to recover them in the following games against Libya and Guinea Conakry.
