Martial not risked for Cameroon clash

France boss Didier Deschamps has eased fears over Anthony Martial’s participation at Euro 2016, despite a thigh injury ruling him out of the friendly against Cameroon on Monday.

The 20-year-old forward enjoyed a promising start to his Manchester United career, scoring 17 goals in his debut season and helping the team win the FA Cup as recently as last weekend.

Les Bleus will be pinning their hopes on Martial to inspire them to European Championship glory on home soil, and Deschamps is confident the exciting United talent will be fit for the tournament, which kicks off on June 10.

But the Lyon youth product will not feature against the Indomitable Lions in Nantes as he needs rest after his FA Cup exploits.

“Martial has pain in his thigh,” Deschamps said. “He finished the season late. I will not take any risks tomorrow and it is likely that he will not participate in the match.

“There is no doubt about Martial’s participation in the Euros. His thigh problem is muscular fatigue.”
