After two years of hibernation, MINUH bounced back to the top of the firmament in handball by clinching the 49th edition of the Cup of Cameroon in the men's senior category. In a hotly contested final at the Yaounde Sports Complex on Saturday, September 22, MINUH spurred by the presence of their minister, Jean Claude Mbwentchou, narrowly edged a determined Volcan side, 29-28 to lift the trophy.
The encounter was very interesting in that both teams were of equal strength as they kept scoring and equalising without any team leading the other with more than three goals at a time. Proof of this was that both teams were tied at 24 goals each way at full time and it was only during a ten-minute prolongation that MINUH was able to demarcate themselves from their opponent. In the women's senior category, the Higher Institute of Youth and Sports, INJS, was humbled 19-24 by the team from the armed forces and police, FAP to conserve the title they won last year.
Meanwhile it was also a close race for Nziko and Inter Stars in the women's junior category with Inter Stars taking the upper hand 13-11 to carry the day. Nziko transferred the aggression to Esperance Sports in the men's junior category, walloping them 21-14 in an encounter Nziko dominated from the beginning to the end. In the men's veteran category, Parlement 9 beat Bepanda Omnisport by 23 goals to 21.
Meanwhile Mfandena disposed of Energising Douala by 26 goals to 23. The finals were witnessed by the Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Adoum Garoua in the company of his colleague from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, Jean Claude Mbwentchou and the Roving Ambassador, Roger Milla.
