In an unexpected turn of events, the president of the Cameroon Boxing Federation Bertrand Mendouga has issued a press release distancing the federation from the organization of much heralded boxing gala dubbed "Choc of Champions" scheduled to take place on February 1, 2014.
Bertrand Mendouga said though the federation had earlier given its blessing for the competition to take place, the main organizer of the event, Perez Wilma, has not yet fulfilled all the necessary conditions comprising a licence for organizing professional combats, ensuring that the boxers have valid sports licences, medical certificates and contracts between the boxers and her organisation.
According to the press release, Wilma Perez was supposed to fulfil the conditions at least five days to the competition and since she hasn't done so four days (as of yesterday) to the competition, the president is therefore calling for a postponement or cancelation of the event. Contacted on the issue, Wilma Perez said she is not interested in having problems with the boxing federation and that she was frantically fighting to fulfil the conditions demanded.
She said the competition will take place on the stipulated date as preparations have gone so far to be postponed now. It is worthy to note that the federation had opted to offer her assistance by providing the officials for the competition, a boxing ring and hall. Hopefully, the federation and Wilma Perez would come to a common ground of understanding to enable the event take place hitch-free.
