Nomads offer Lionel Assu contract

Cameroonian striker Lionel Assu has become one of the first new players to be offered a contract at Be Forward Mighty Wanderers after impressing the team’s technical panel.

Assu has become a darling of Nyerere ever since he turned up at Lali Lubani Road a week ago.

After displaying some impressing performances during training Assu was used as a substitute in the Nomads’ friendly against Silver Strikers during the Be Forward sponsorship.

In fact it is a foul on him by Silver’s Timothy Chitedze that led to the violence and the subsequent abandonment of the game at Kamuzu Stadium.

But his full prowess was shown on Saturday when he guided the Nomads to a 3-1 victory over Super League entrants Surestream FC at Kamuzu Stadium in a game he scored one of the goals.

Wanderers team manager Steve Madeira disclosed that a decision had been made to offer Assu a contract.

“We are signing him this week,” Madeira said without giving details.

The player’s agent Prince Jere also confirmed the development.

“It’s a done deal,” Jere said. “They want the player and we have completed negotiations.”

“I am not surprised because like I told you Assu is a top class player.”

Jere also disclosed that they were other Super League clubs that were willing sign Assu.

“Wanderers acted fast,” he said. “They got the player and opened negotiations.”

“Otherwise, it’s true that other clubs also wanted to sign Assu.”

The 21 year-old Cameroonian has had stints with Japanese and Danish clubs before but joins Wanderers as a free agent.
