Olympic Committee Holds EXCO Meeting

The meeting was to take stock of the past Olympiad and draw the road map for the next.

The executive bureau of the National Olympic and Sports Committee met yesterday at the head office in Yaounde to take stock of the Olympiad just past and draw up plans for the next. The executive members also examined the finances of the movement, evaluated the organization of the 2012 edition of the national games dubbed DIXIADES as well as the situation within sports federations. Other issues examined included candidacies for elective positive within the body as well as adopted the agenda for the board meeting coming up on Friday, May 24.

Quizzed on the situation prevailing in some sports federations, notably in boxing and baseball where elections were cancelled by the Chamber of Arbitration and Conciliation of the National Olympic and Sports Committee and yet they were installed by the Minister of Sports and Physical Education, the Secretary General, Emmanuel Claude Abolo Biwole, said the chamber was independent and its verdict has to be implemented. He however stated that the judgement of the organ wasn't finite given that belligerents could still appeal the decision at the International Court of Arbitration in Sports. In the mean time, he said the Olympic committee doesn't recognise the two federation presidents who were affected by the decision of the Chamber of Arbitration.

In a related development, the board of directors of the National Olympic and Sports Committee will be meeting tomorrow, May 24th, to lay the groundwork for the elective general assembly to take place on May 25. The incumbent president, Colonel Kalkaba Malboum, is the lone candidate for his own succession. His re-election therefore is a foregone conclusion as the election is like a plebiscite for the accomplishments of this colossus in sports management.
