U-23 African Qualifiers: Cameroon in do or die situation

Cameroon now have their backs to the wall in the qualifiers for the U-23 African championship to take place in Senegal in December.

In the away leg second round qualifier match Sunday at the Ahmadou Ahidjo stadium in Yaounde, the U-23 Lions played a goalless draw against Sierra Leone.

It is worthy to note that the score is not a good one for Cameroon hence in case they make a draw win the return leg, Cameroon will be butted out.

The U-23 Lions therefore, have as an option only a victory during the return leg to take place in less than one week in Sierra Leone who hosted the away leg though it took place in Yaounde. The match was moved to Yaounde due to the Ebola scare in Sierra Leone.

Sierra Leone played as if they were playing in their country and came twice towards surprising Cameroon but for the prowess of goalkeeper André Onana Onana who made some crucial saves.

Speaking after the encounter, Onana who was trained in the Fundesport in Cameroon said he was happy not to have conceded a goal in the encounter but was saddened by the fact that Cameroon was not able to score a goal despite domination in the encounter.

The second goalkeeper from Ajax Amsterdam said he was hopeful that Cameroon was going to obtain victory in the return leg and qualify for the third and final round qualifiers.

However, given the satisfaction of the Sierra Leoneans with the draw, it is dreaded that they will come for a kill during the return leg as they prayed and thanked God for the goalless draw after the encounter.

The Sierra Leoneans will continue staying in Yaounde until the return leg in less than one week. The tournament in Senegal will also serve as qualifiers for the 2016 Olympic Games to take place in Rio de Janeiro next year.
