Volker Finke praises 18-year old Ondoa

Cameroon’s head coach Volker Finke has heaped praise on 18-year old Joseph Fabrice Ondoa for the goalkeeper’s performance in their 4-1 thrashing of Côte d’Ivoire in Yaoundé on Wednesday afternoon, in their Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2015 qualifiers’ matchday 2 encounter in Group D.

Two braces by Olympique Lyonnais’ youngster Clinton N’Jie and FC Porto’s summer signing Vincent Aboubakar helped the Indomitable Lions secure a very precious win over the Elephants, who only managed a single goal at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium, thanks to skipper Yaya Touré.

“Côte d’Ivoire are not a weak side. They have players in the best European leagues, and you must not forget that at certain times of the match, the young keeper Fabrice Ondoa Ebogo performed some crucial saves,” Finke insisted at the post-match press conference.

“He was a real plus for us in this match, he pulled off some very good saves. Each one of the players contributed to the team.”

Cameroon are comfortably leading their Group D on six points, ahead of DR Congo, Côte d’Ivoire (both on three points) and Sierra Leone who are still looking for their first points in this campaign.
