Yaounde Taekwondo International open gains grounds

There was massive participation during the second edition of the competition on December 5th, 2015.

The second edition of the Yaounde international Open in taekwondo took place on Saturday at the gymnasium of the Public Works school in Yaounde December 5th with the participation of three foreign countries namely France, Switzerland and Saudi Arabia represented by their respective inter- school champions. The competition organized by the Centre regional league of Taekwondo in collaboration with an organization known as Africa Sports Passion, is aimed at encouraging children to practice sport alongside studies such that if they fail to become stars, they could switch another profession or better reintegrate the society after retiring from sports.

According to the president of Africa Sports Passion, Jean Marie Awana, their goal is to mobilize the human, financial and technical resources necessary to enable children with talents in sports to be able to pursue their dream on the spot in Cameroon while attending school at the same time. It is for this reason that the Yaounde International Open was reserved solely for children divided into six categories according to their ages.  Jean Marie Awana also said they want to make the Yaounde open a great competition in central Africa.

It is worthy to mention that the quality of the organization was commendable given that there was a medical team on hand to intervene in case of injury. Athletes and spectators were offered little snacks as the competition unfolded with some traditional dance groups and orchestra available to animate the event. The ambiance was so good that the children did not leave the venue even after competing, preferring to play about with their friends.
