Cameroon head coach, Enow Ngachu, has said defeating Ecuador in the Fifa Women's World Cup group game at the BC Place Stadium in Vancouver gives them a feeling of the repeat of their men's team win over Argentina in 1990.

The Cameroon coach explained that when the date of their game against Ecuador was announced for June 8, the team had a deja vu feeling that they can re-enact the feat of the Indomitable Lions when they stunned South American powerhouse Argentina 1-0 in the men's World Cup 25 years on Italian soil.

True to their feeling of having experienced such situation, the Cameroon Lionesses thumped Ecuador six-nil.

Ngachu also admitted that the Japanese will be a different opposition in their next match.

But he stated that they are in Canada to learn as first-timers at the Women's World Cup and also "want to make Africa proud."

"We scored six goals in our first-ever Women’s World Cup match – it couldn’t really have gone any better. We’re quite happy, because we’ve made history today. In our next match against Japan, things will be very different, because they’re the best team in the world. When we heard that our first game would be played on 8 June, we were pleased, because that was the date of our men’s team’s famous win over Argentina in the opening match of the 1990 World Cup. And so we’ve ended up beating Ecuador on the same day. We’re here to learn, and we want to make Africa proud," he said at the post-match conference.

The Lionesses of Cameroon will go up against Japan at the BC Place Stadium on June 12
